Museums can only hold a child attention for several minutes before
boredom sets in and all hell breaks out, but Belfast has got much
more than just museums and art galleries. For example one can visit
the Odyssey Arena which opened in 2000 and has Irelands largest
entertainment complex where you will find the enormous Imax screen
cinema which is the biggest in Europe. There are also interactive
learning centres within the Odyssey called the W5 which will keep
them busy for hours and probably will make you totally exhausted.
The Belfast Zoo is great for the smaller children and you can relax
in the beautiful surroundings while your children talk to the lions
and the giraffes. There is also a mini farm with pigs and nanny
goats with lots of goings on in the chicken coop. A playground is
nearby if they still have any energy left to burn up and to spoil
them there are lots of ice cream vans to tempt them.
The Dundonald Ice Bowl is very popular with children of all ages
and is located in the east of the city, and is Irelands largest
Ice Skating Rink. For a swim, go to the Valley Leisure Centre in
the North of the city which also has a slide as well as a small
pool for babies, or else on the East part of town there is the Avoneil
Leisure Centre.
